Dear  Parents,

Covid Numbers at KISD

We continue to monitor the health of our students and have been notified that 2 students have been lab confirmed for having Covid-19.   One student was from KHS and the other was from KMS and neither had  exposure to students on campus, as they were both learning remotely this week and on Thanksgiving Break last week.  We also currently have 5 staff members and 12 students quarantined for exposure to people with lab confirmed cases of Covid-19.  Both students who have tested positive were on quarantine, and thus have not had much contact with other folks to put them at risk.  This is precisely why we quarantine students and staff who are exposed - to limit their exposure to others in the event they eventually test positive themselves.

How important is quarantining to slowing the spread of Covid-19?

Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their state or local health department.  People on quarantine as a result of a close contact should not be going to HEB or going out to eat.  They should definitely not be going to gatherings or hosting gatherings.  The reason we quarantine for 14 days is because COVID-19 has a 14 day incubation period.  Look at the image below as an example.

Someone may never get any symptoms and still  have Covid-19.  Someone  may get a negative test result and still develop Covid-19 later on.  Someone may test positive and have mild symptoms.  The harm in not quarantining appropriately  is that you may very easily  spread it to someone else who will experience symptoms and may get very sick, and even die.  The moment someone in a household gets a positive test result, everyone else in the household more than likely has had close contact with that individual and now has to quarantine for 14 days.  This means they can’t attend school  or work for that length of time.  This has the potential to have devastating financial and health consequences  on a family.

Look for symptoms

Please protect your families by limiting their exposure to people outside of your household.  Be aware of the symptoms that  indicate a possible COVID-19 infection as advised by the CDC website.

Notify us

In order for us to slow and even stop the spread of COVID-19 in our Kenedy ISD family, we need anyone in the Kenedy ISD community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 tor who has traveled to another country o please notify our school by contacting our campus nurse at 830-583-4100 or email  kzidek@kenedyisd.com.

We  will  continue to monitor this situation and will provide additional information as needed.  We are prepared to do whatever it takes to keep our KISD family #KenedySafe and #KenedyStrong.

Sincerely,

Dr. Barrera Ugarte
