Possible Exposure COVID-19 8-19

August 19, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,
In our ongoing commitment to transparent communication with regards to our response to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that a student who was lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the campus of Kenedy High School on August 14, 2020. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her. We are working closely with the local health department on this matter.

All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified as soon as possible. Those that were in close contact will remain off-campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of further updates.

We also received communication regarding another student with a probable positive case of COVID-19. We are beginning the contract tracing process and do not have reason to believe that this student has been on our campus(es) as of late.

The campus and areas that this student was at have been disinfected and sanitized thoroughly by our KISD Custodial Team.

While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19.

It is absolutely critical that you notify KISD when you know of a staff member or student who may have tested positive for COVID-19. We will investigate the report and provide information to our local health department and to our community, as appropriate.

We will continue to keep you abreast of any new information we can share with you in regards to our response to COVID-19. The health and safety of our students and staff is our primary responsibility and we fully commit to providing our community with information that is factual and appropriate to communicate.

Sincerely,
Dr. Diana Barrera Ugarte
Superintendent of Schools
