Closure extended through April 24

March 30, 2020

Dear Kenedy ISD Family,

We appreciate all the patience and support we have received from our community during this challenging time.  KISD remains committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for our students and staff. In doing our part to stop the spread of COVID-19, Kenedy ISD schools will remain closed through April 24.  It is our hope that we will be able to return to school during this academic school year.  However, we have found that with COVID-19, things move quickly, and we must all adjust to changing circumstances. Current information from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) indicates that the days we remain out of school will not have to be made up so long as a continuity of education remains in place.

KISD remains dedicated to educating our children in the midst of this crisis. Our amazing teachers will continue to work with students on distance learning to include the pickup and drop off of materials. We will also continue to provide our curbside meals for families in need, and student counseling services will still be offered by phone and through virtual support.  District and campus administrators are also working to support teachers with planning, teaching and supporting students involved in special programs.

At this time, all calendar events in May and June, including the KHS graduation, are still scheduled. It’s too early to determine whether those ceremonies will need to be modified. We will let you know if that changes. The safety and well-being of our community remains at the forefront of our decisions. Please join Kenedy ISD in our commitment to stop the spread of COVID-19 by being “Kenedy Strong” by staying apart.

Sending a virtual hug to each of you,

Dr. Diana Barrera Ugarte

Superintendent of Schools-Kenedy ISD
