Kenedy Independent School District

Kenedy ISD has been notified that a staff member who works for our district has had direct exposure to an individual who recently tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member is currently self-quarantining at home, is not displaying any symptoms of the virus and has not tested positive for the virus. The person is being tested and Kenedy ISD will follow protocols to notify anyone we believe may have been exposed to this particular staff member.

Yesterday, the Texas Education Agency hosted a conference call with all superintendents that was slated to include back-to-school guidance for re-entry into our schools so that we can provide face-to-face instruction, as we did before this Covid-19 nightmare began. Commissioner Morath shared information about how districts could provide remote learning for students who were unable or uncomfortable in attending, but did not share any guidance on how to safely return to school. The release of this information was postponed due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases across Texas.

We are getting ready to begin wrapping up this school year, and we need your help to make sure we have all grades needed from our students. If you have not already been contacted by your child's teacher, you can expect to be contacted in the coming days. If you have not heard from your child's teacher, please call your child's school beginning Thursday, April 30.

Governor Abbott has just announced that all schools in Texas must remain closed for the remainder of this 2019-2020 school year.

KISD has made it our number one priority to keep our students and families safe during the COVID-19 crisis. We continue to balance that priority with continuing to educate and feed students. With today's announcement that Karnes County does have a confirmed case of COVID and the announcement made by Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio to "stay at home", we have carefully reevaluated our operations and are taking immediate action to scale down staff that reports physically to work. KISD Parents, We will be providing many technology applications/websites for our students to utilize at home to support their learning in grades 2-12. Today we are working to update and prepare computers for check out to families (one computer per family) on Monday. Parents will need to be present to check computers out, on behalf of their children. In order for us to communicate effectively with you, we need to be sure all your contact information is updated. If you have a new phone number or email address, please call us at 830-583-4100 and tell the staff member you are calling to update your phone number or email address. They will make sure the information gets to the appropriate person to update your child’s file ASAP.

We continue to actively monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) along with our school district colleagues across the region and state, and have decided to suspend normal school operations from Monday, March 23 through Friday, April 3. During this period, all Kenedy ISD facilities will be closed for instruction, functions, events, practices and programs.

The Kenedy ISD understands the importance of continuing to provide nutritional support for our Lions, Leopards and Cubs during the school closure from March 16-20. We will be providing grab and go meals for ALL children who are between the ages of 1-18 in Kenedy. ALL KISD students qualify for these free meals during this emergency school closure. (Read More)
